How to convert videos and rip DVDs?

This is the step by step guide for Video Converter Pro for Mac to show you how to convert video (including HD video, MKV, WMV, AVCHD, AVI, MOV, FLV, MOD, TOD etc.) to portable device, Apple optimized format or HD MKV, WMV, AVI video.

Main interface

Step 1: Import Video and DVD Files

To add files into the List pane, you can click File > Import > Add Video Files/Add Audio Files/Load DVD on the menu bar. Or just drag the files into the List pane for loading. To load DVDs, you need to drag the whole DVD (VIDEO_TS) folder when using the dragging method.

Tips:

1. If you fail to load some DVDs, try clicking Video Converter Pro on the menu bar > Preferences > Advanced and checking Load DVDs in Advanced Model. It is used to load specially encrypted DVDs.

2. In the panel mentioned above, you can choose All Titles, Titles Longer than 30 seconds or The Longest Titles Only to load from the Load Contents in a DVD list.

Step 2: Output Settings

Then you should make some necessary settings. Click File > Encode Settings, or click the Settings button to name the output file, define its format and codec, rates, etc.

You can save the current setting as your own preset by clicking Save As. And next time you can choose it from the Format list.

Click Apply to All, and the current settings will be applied to all files.

Step 3: Convert Video Files

Before converting, you can preview your videos in the Preview pane. Then you can click Start to convert. During conversion, you can pause or cancel conversions.

By default, the program will decide the number of videos to be converted according to the number of your processor cores. And you can define how many videos to be converted simultaneously. Click Video Converter Pro on the menu bar > Preferences > Advanced, and choose a number from Maximum converting tasks.

After conversion: Select what you want your Mac to do after conversion.

Tips 1: How to edit videos with Video Converter Pro for Mac

Edit function

1. Trim segments

If you just want to convert clips from video movie, you can click the Edit pen icon and go to Trimming. In the Trim window, you can trim the length of the current video by dragging the Start Time and End Time sliders.

Click "Done" to remove all the trimming effects.

2.Crop output video size

Here you are allowed to crop video to remove the black edges around your movie video, so you can watch your movies on your portable players in full screen.

Note: Before you start to crop your movie video, you can select an output aspect ratio from the "Zoom" list. There are six choices available: Full Screen, Keep Original, 16:9, 4:3, Letter Box and Pan & Scan. After you select an output aspect ratio and finish the cropping, the result will be shown at the same time in the Output window.

Click "Done" to trace back your editing steps.

3. Adjust effect of the output video

You can adjust the video effects by adjusting the following parameters:

Brightness: Drag the Brightness adjustment slider to set the brightness of the video.
Contrast: Drag the Contrast adjustment slider to set the contrast of the video.
Saturation: Drag the Saturation adjustment slider to set the saturation of the video.
Volume: Drag the Volume adjustment slider to set the volume of the audio.
Effect: Select a special effect from the Effect drop-down list for the video. The available choices are No Effect, Gray, Emboss, Negative, Black White, White Black, Old Film.
Deinterlacing: There are five options available for you to choose: None, Repeat Odd Filed, Repeat Even Field, Odd Interpolate and Even Interpolate.

Click Done to trace back your editing steps.

4. Add watermark and subtitle on output video

1. Watermark

There are two kinds of watermarks for you: Image Watermark and Test Watermark.
You can click "Apply to All" option and then click OK to apply the current watermark settings to all the imported files.

2. Subtitle

Click Subtitle tab and add subtitle to the video or choose from the originals.

Advanced Tips

1: Preview, Snapshot, choose picture format for snapshot

While previewing the movie, you can capture pictures by clicking the snap button, and you can click the snap folder to open the snapshot folder to view the captured pictures.

You can also specify where to save the pictures: Click "Preference" from main menu and set the Snapshot preferences in the pop-up window as below:
