Have many wonderful DVDs? It is a good idea to watch DVD movies on your portable players to feast your eyes anywhere and anytime. MacTheRipper enables you to rip DVD to videos for easy and free sharing. Here are some useful tips to on how to use Mac the Ripper to backup DVDs on Mac free and rip and convert DVD to AVI, MP4, MOV, 3GP2, MP3, etc.

Part I. How to rip DVD with MacTheRipper for free

MacTheRipper is an excellent free DVD Ripper for Mac. It can extract videos from DVD to your hard drive, so that you can play them anywhere. MacTheRipper removes CSS encryption, Macrovision protection and sets the discs' region codes to '0' for region-free by default. Meanwhile, it is also capable of removing RCE region protection, making unrestricted copies of any DVD movies you own. It doesn't rely on the DVD drive to get the CSS decryption keys, and that means that you do not need to play the DVD with DVD Players in order to rip it unprotected to your hard drives. It is also capable of removing UOPs, or User Operation Prohibitions, which are the settings that prevent you from skipping or fast-forwarding certain parts of DVDs, such as FBI warnings, previews, logos and intros. MacTheRipper is also able to extract discs with the new ARccOS protection, as well as DVDs that have been damaged or improperly mastered.

Step1: Download MacTheRipper from MacUpdate and install it

Get MacTheRipper from here, and then mount on your Mac. 

Step 2: Backup DVD on Mac

Run MacTheRipper Lion, and insert the source DVD disc. You can look up the Mac The Ripper Manual along with the app if you are confused before using. MacTheRipper can automatically detect the info of inserted DVD discs.

Remember to set the RCE Region:

If MacTheRipper displays DISC RCE: CLEAR after scanning the DVD, you can leave the option to OFF status.

If MacTheRipper displays DISC RCE: -DETECTED-, you must set the option to the region in which the DVD was purchased. For example, if you have a DVD that was purchased in N. America (Region 1), and MacTheRipper says that RCE is detected, you must set the 'RCE Region' popup menu to 'RCE 1'.

Although the interface will look a little confusing at first you should only focus on the 'Disc' and 'Mode' tabs. After all the settings you need, press Go! to start the extraction.

Part II: How to rip DVD to iPod, iPhone & iPad video formats

Have you wanted to rip DVD to iPod, AVI, MKV, MOV, MP3 or other video and audio formats using Mac the ripper? The truth is that Mac the ripper can only make a copy of your DVD to computer as VOB files. It cannot rip and convert DVD to other video or audio formats. Step 1: Add MacTheRipper VOB videos to the program

Install and run the program and add files by opening from the menu or dragging it directly to the interface.

Step 2: Choose the output format

Then choose the suitable format for your iPod, iPhone or mobiles.

Step 3: Start to convert the files added to your iPod, iPhone and iPad

After all the settings, you can click Start to convert MacTheRipper VOB to iPod, iPhone and iPad videos. After conversion, you can just import the files to your iTunes. Sync the iTunes to your iPod to enjoy them anywhere anytime.
